Dr. Dughoff is thrilled to announce a new option within her practice -- walk & talk therapy! The field of mental health has grown tremendously with the addition of virtual appointments during the tele-health boom in the last several years. Now, more therapists are offering new and creative options that can seamlessly fit into someone's active and busy lifestyle.
Walk and talk therapy is essentially a counseling session that takes place in the outdoors. From an observer's perspective, it looks like two people are on a casual stroll together. From the client's perspective, he/she is gently moving (and also at times resting) while processing and expressing their thoughts and feelings. Many people find that that they are better able to access their emotions and can be more open while engaging in gentle movement in a beautiful nature setting, as compared to being in a conventional office.
Consider the feel-good endorphins that are produced during gentle exercise, along with stimulation of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, exposure to sunlight (production of vitamin D), breathing fresh air -- all while talking and processing emotions. Some clients are so busy between work, family, various appointments, that they have to choose between their mental health and their physical health, this type of therapy combines both at the same time.
A traditional initial intake appointment (in-person or tele-health) will take place before a walk & talk session. Dr. Dughoff offers two local locations in Hendersonville, North Carolina to meet for a 45 minute walk & talk appointment (currently only available on Saturdays). If inclement weather is expected, walk & talk sessions will be adjusted to an office visit or tele-health session.
